Beauty Pageants Are Nothing But A Scam
The following speech is Against the proposed motion.
Oh the beautiful Aphrodite, your supple white skin and your beautiful blue eyes. That is beauty, we have all been taught to worship beauty, in every religion and culture. And beauty pageants do that.
So ,when the other side says that beauty pageants are all about external beauty and nothing else, that is just untrue. Beacuse we only see the crowing or the ramp walk we don't see the question -answer round, we don't see the social work, we don't see behind the scenes of of the making of a beauty queen or a king.
When they say that training us stressing those people out we forget that it is the same for people in sports, isn't it the same for lawyers and doctors and basically everyone. This training gives them a sense of discipline. The rigorous training that is given to them, infact is being given to us right now as M.B.B.S students is teaching us discipline, it is giving us a way of life and it is very beneficial for our own future.
Then they say that youth are more attracted to news about beauty. Isn't it the fault of media, sir? That media is not showing those scientific advancements as much as they should in comparison to beauty.
Now when we go to the miss universe organisation homepage there is a short introduction about the recent most Miss Universe. Right now, it is Harnaz Sandhu. We all know that. No-where in those 3 paragraph introduction about her, it is now where written that she is the most beautiful woman in this world. It doesn't have a single mention about her curves, her features, her lips, her eyes, her nose or anything as such. Infact, what is written is about her social work, her being inspired by her own mother, who is a gynaecologist by profession.
Furthermore, when these people say that this isn't about women empowerment, in the 1960s-70s, when beauty pageants where new in india, who do you think took part in these competitions? Women, who were individuals, who were more than their households, their husbands, their children, their relatives, they were themselves.
When people are crowned beauty queens they set an example for the community that they represent, when Dr. Rita Faria, the first asian to be crowned a beauty queen at international level as such, isn't she an inspiration to all the girls around the world.
The idea of white skin and blue eyes is an outdated one and beauty pageants have proved this by crowning black and brown queens.
These are just some of the reasons as to why beauty pageants are not a scam.
