Beauty Pageants Are Nothing more Than A Scam  The following speech is For the proposed motion-  Good Evening everyone 1 Year Aath Tavedi, MBBS Student at BMC. Today I am going to speak for the motion. Have You ever seen an ugly Miss World?  Just not an possible!  It is easy to call them a Scam, a Scam of Beauty ! When we check for the eligibility ; there we find these stereotypical image of beauty, like:  (1)Age must be between  18-27 Years old.  (2) Should not be married/ Nor pregnant/ Not mother of any Child. → The "Beauty" defination given in Gita refers it to "Sushmaa!" which means the exquisite beauty referring to a perfect harmony symmetry, order, , measure, equality and rythm ! Not only symmetry or order. → These are many cases where the organisations have taken  the crowns back from those given to the winners. The reason mentioned was that  they found the winni g person to be married or being a mother of a child. This is where they lo...

Beauty Pageants Are Nothing But A Scam  The following speech is Against the proposed  motion. Oh the beautiful Aphrodite, your supple white skin and your beautiful blue eyes. That is beauty, we have all been taught to worship beauty, in every religion and culture. And beauty pageants do that.  So ,when the other side says that beauty pageants are all about external beauty and nothing else, that is just untrue. Beacuse we only see the crowing or the ramp walk we don't see the question -answer round, we don't see the social work, we don't see behind the scenes of of the making of a beauty queen or a king. When they say that training us stressing those people out we forget that it is the same for people in sports, isn't it the same for lawyers and doctors and basically everyone. This training gives them a sense of discipline. The rigorous training that is given to them, infact is being given to us right now as M.B.B.S students is teaching us discipline, it is giving u...

Debate Finale #2 Dakshi Kadakia

The people of science are even more anachronistic than people of religion . The following speech is Against the Motion proposed. Hello!A very great evening to everyone present here! I am Dakshi and am here to speak against "Science being more anachronistic than religion".So, what does anachronism mean? In simple words, it is being outdated or old-fashioned or Orthodox. But, how can science be outdated? Science actually explains  from the creation of universe through the big bang theory then the five ice ages than the human evolution- Australopithecus to H. sapiens-all these proved on the basis of evidence and even universally accepted.  While when we tall about religion, different religions have different beliefs. Like some belive Earth was created in 7 days or created by some devine energy in just a second. No mention of any evolution or anything.. Just Adam and Eve.  Thus, " Science is from the start and will be there till the end.. Never outdated". Also, science ...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS [PPA] PPA means a co-ordination between public sector and private sector for a project for mutual benefit. It was a very good iniative as it provided employement at that time particularly 1980s. Also the Government was benefitted as they were getting the deal done as with best price as every private tycoon want advertisement from government itself. Hence they used to get best work done and that too at a cheaper amount. But now, the world has changed and has become corrupted even more than before.  Now, even a signature from the government is not free. Private Sector is bribing the government officials to have their tender amount to be approved. And after getting the tender, they use cheap quality material in order to recover their bribed money, which can lead to a Disastorous accident . For Exmple: If a bridge is to be made up by a private sector company and that sector had give br...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? One can paint a picture of a public-private partnership as a contractor arrangement amongst a local government, a national government, or maybe public authority and the private supplier firm. And significantly, this contract implies that the private part holds the reins for maybe building or upgrading the piece of infrastructure, financing or making arrangements for this financing, and then manages this facility allowing no public involvement.  Placing an emphasis on this partnership being a multi-dimensional aspect. I strongly feel that in a world on the brink of illegitimate and fraudulent monetary transactions, Public-Private Partnerships shall ultimately push us off as a key player in any government owned facility provision. To have firm foothold over what government deems to be the citizen’s, I firmly believe that the private and public parties joining hand shall cast a dark shadow over what’s ours to sta...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? PPP stands for public private partnership. It is a model of agreement between two or more public and private sectors. Water, power, transport and communication are the four pillars of infrastructure development by PPP as an alternative. But the challenges that we face today through this agreements are as follows; • Private companies always look forward for acquiring more profit with a limited number of employees, which results in job loss. .•No provision for re-negotiation. • It increases the operation cost and hikes the fare. • There is lack of clarity over the degree of risk transfer to the private players in areas, such as asset construction cost, operation risk, non-insurable risk etc. • Lack of clarity is also evident in concessional agreement, revenue sharing and tariff structure framework. • The projects are also delayed due to land acquisition, cost overruns, long gestation periods and lack of funding and ...

Are public-private partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? My vote is NO (Against the statement) A Public-Private Partnership is established by the government in order to lower the financial burden upon them. Not everything can be sponsored by the government yet, it’s their duty to satisfy the needs of the public. So, they approach the private companies in order to fund their projects. The government pays the private companies, as promised by the contract signed between them, after the project is completed. In a world as corrupt as now, the government might not have negotiated for the risks and burdens, that the future of the project holds. And if the project fails to reach the required demand, all the expense is transferred onto the private companies. The contract is not fulfilled from the government’s side and the company loses a hefty amount to build something that has no use anymore. The private companies may ensue extra taxes and rents on the public that uses these...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? There are two main sectors in our country, the public sector and the private sector. The public sector is the representation of government on the buisness' side. As with any government scheme, it has it's own problems, the main problems being sloppy work and bad service. The private sector is the one run by buisnessmen and it has it's problems too. Mainly, that the private sector had the funds to do huge projects but didn't have any huge projects, mainly in the sector of infrastructure. To combat that problem a new joint sector was formed. The joint sector is a contractual public-private relationship. It was formed to combat the problems of both the sectors and to bring out the best of both the sectors.  The public-private relationship is a contractual agreement between a government entity and a private entity with hard set roles for each one defined. This aims to bring out the funds of private ent...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? Public Private Partnerships The approach on which public-private partnerships are based can potentially mitigate the overruns and schedule delays that plague traditional infrastructure project delivery by categorically delineating governance, allocating shared risk, integrating resources, applying best practices, and establishing a life cycle-long perspective of costs and accountability. Private-sector technology and innovation, for example, can help improve the operational efficiency of providing public services. The public sector, for its part, provides incentives for the private sector to deliver projects on time and within budget. The overall scalability of the projects can be greatly enhanced considering the complementary nature of the partnership. It is important to understand the loop holes lie only in terms of cooperation and competitive profit bias. In a properly legislated partnership wherein both ...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? Firstly, we will understand what Public- Private Partnership and corruption mean. So, PPP is a collaboration between government agency and private sector for mainly large government projects, like roads, bridges, municipal works or public service accomodations. In such collaborations, corruption, that is the dishonest conduct or bribery can be very common. Here, in PPP, Public party defines and monitors the compliance with the objectives while private party participates in designing, completing and funding the project. So, in this way, the public sector can utilize the new technology and innovation of private sector while Private sector could get the incentives if the project is completed in time and budget. Such PPP involves 3 stages-  1.Decision stage, where aim of prohect is defined, & to prevent correption here - Goode and services to be purchased should be economically justified. 2. Tendering Stage...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? Should I act selfish or or should I be selfless? Shall I want my job to be secured or shall I want to work my a** off. For every service that I get, should be reasonable or expensive sounds new normal to me. Should I want something to take more time or I want it to be a piece of perfection? When it comes my perk government sector sounds good and I choose my services private sector sounds bit more efficient to me. So, do I want to be selfish and want to have a perky job secure one, good paying, doesn't sound flashy? Or will I have to be selfless, hardworking , efficient , excellence is not choice but necessity for my growth. If I help your services with private sector efficiency and I get perks like public sector, combination sounds good to me, hope it's implementation will be as good as my imagination.             -  By Hrushikesh Patel             ...

Are Public-private Partnerships beneficial in a world as corrupt as now? Any discussion on corruption revolves around the public sector and employees. The answer to how public-private partnerships can reduce corruption lies in what drives the respective sector.  Public sector is driven by public welfare whereas, Private sector is incentive driven. There is, no doubt, that profit is a better motivation than public welfare to work for any employee.  The salary of Private sector company managers depends on the performance of the company whereas a public sector employee gets fixed salary making  employees less efficient. Private companies have more competent and qualified people for doing a job as compared to public.  Also, private sector can lay off underperforming employees whereas public sector refrains from laying them offs to keep the voters happy at the cost of increasing  losses for the company. Private companies face pressure from stake holders and board mem...

Feeling of home

I am a final year Physiotherapy student. We are posted in clinics from 2nd year itself and we observe and form bonds with the patient much more than anyone does . Daily meetups , talking about their life to distract them from the pain. What I have learned is, all they need is a person to hear them and help them .  I am not talking about any particular patient here. Every 15 days, our postings change and we meet different kinds of patients. The way the look at you when they enter the OPD , eyes filled with hope to make their affected part better .  I love it how I am able to help them with zero invasions . I am amazed on how easily things can work . Just by, talking to them patiently, listening to them and their problems and giving them simple solutions brings such a huge smile on their face . I personally get attached with my patients a lot. Dont know weather it is good thing or not but it definitely feels good to me . I try to give my best. I put in every drop of energy I hav...

An Unforgettable Day..

30-6-2021 This day was really hectic.  For the purpose of seeing first delivery, we almost went 3-4 times at gynecology hospital. Even at 8 PM, we got back to hostel, disappointed.  And then, it was around 11:15 PM when we reached there and saw a normal delivery. The experience was so overwhelming and what an emotional moment it was ! I really felt emotions of that mother. To see a live soul coming out from another was a very delightful and joyful experience. āŠ–āŠ°ેāŠ–āŠ° medical field āŠ āŠāŠ—āŠĩાāŠĻ āŠŠ્āŠ°āŠĪ્āŠŊેāŠĻી āŠķ્āŠ°āŠ§્āŠ§ા āŠĻે āŠĶāŠ°ેāŠ• āŠŠāŠģે āŠŪāŠœāŠŽૂāŠĪ āŠ•āŠ°ે āŠ›ે āŠĻે āŠ† āŠļāŠŦāŠ°āŠŪાં āŠ† āŠ…āŠĻુāŠāŠĩ milestone āŠļāŠŪાāŠĻ āŠ›ે..  āŠŠāŠģāŠĩાāŠ°āŠŪાં āŠĪાāŠ°ા āŠ…āŠļ્āŠĪિāŠĪ્āŠĩāŠĻો āŠ…āŠđેāŠļાāŠļ āŠ•āŠ°ાāŠĩી āŠ—āŠŊો,  āŠœ્āŠŊાāŠ°ે āŠœીāŠĩāŠŪાંāŠĨી āŠœીāŠĩ āŠ›ૂāŠŸો āŠŠāŠĄીāŠĻે āŠ§āŠ°āŠĪીāŠĻે āŠŠાāŠŪી āŠ—āŠŊો.. 😇 Later, we saw two complications too. We were to see delivery of 27 weeks preterm delivery too, that too twins! But, ti...

The Cry of the Newborn

Hello! So, I am a 2nd year student and I know this is one of the experience many of us have experienced but it is special for me because it was literally my first day of 2nd year and my first posting was of ObGy.  So, me and few of my friends were just standing in LR and a resident was explaining us, the basics of obstetrics and then after a while, we saw a woman going into labor. Me and my friends were kind of a bit afraid thinking how much bleeding would happen and stuff like that.. But the delivery was very smooth and resident who did the delivery also explained us all the three stages of labor.. That woman gave birth to an extremely cute daughter... I don't want to sound filmy but it surely was a magical moment watching a new life being born in front of you, well nothing can be compared with that feeling! - Dakshi Kadakia  2nd year ,MBBS

Being Available proved worthy !

It was my first day in labor room. It would have been 5th day of my official posting in the Obststricts department but first time in the labor room. I was excited to see the first live delivery in my life. Also, the day being Saturday added a relaxing tinge to my brain wires. All I had to dowas wake up in a beautiful peaceful morning get well dressed (I know i rarely do that but when I do it ,I love it) and reach the wards and get my once in a lifetime experience of watching a life entering the world we are!. I reached on time and found my 4 male batchmates present there. I wanted at least one female to be present there but, I couldn't have done anything else. We saw residents running here andthere , arranging for things and yelling orders and searching for people to be available to help them. Otherwise, things were calm. 2 women have been in labor pains, I don't really know theirexact situation ( as it was my first day and I didn't really read the whole mechanism and stag...

The First Time

Today I experienced something for the first time. Me & my friends were going to the college. We witnessed an accident. Well, not exactly an accident. But the victim. She was lying on the road surrounded by people. She was unconscious. People were already trying things their way to keep her alive. Then we took her to the emergency ward in the hospital in an autorickshaw. The autorishaw driver took her to the hospital and then asked us if we needed any help and when we said no, he left. Then we took her inside and everything was done. The formalities, the treatment and everything else. Her parents arrived and then when she was also stable enough, we left. We had our wards and upcoming exams.  I was very worried about them. But for the time being, in my mind, not even for a single moment, thought of the problems and worries going on in my life. All that I cared about was the patient. I don’t think I’d ever felt this calm, yet worried since years. I was worried but only about the p...

Let's make hospital.... A Home

In my medicine posting. I was just moving around to find a good patient to take history and suddenly I saw a bed on which there was eyeliner ..lipstick.. and so many cute makeup related things and a young beautiful girl.I went to her. Saina, a 15 year old girl. She was suffering from sickel cell anemia and she was operated for osteomyelitis thrice and couldn't walk properly. She was, at large fraction of times,  admitted in hospital to deal with complications of SCA.  She wanted to go to school but couldn't, so she used to study from you-tube.  I also asked her if she ever  got bored over here in hospital to which she replied, that it felt like family there.  That girl despite having so many illness was so lively and happy enjoying every moment.. Doing makeup.. Watching horror movie.. Studying.. And much more .  And we just keep brating about our problems ðŸĨš Also this made me feel ki what if we start treating the patients like our family members. Providing ...

A Doctor: A Preacher

We medicos/residents/doctors, apart from being the saviours, have our own personal life where we face a lot. I have lost two relatives of mine in the past 2.5 months to only one thing: MI Death struck suddenly to both of them, who were otherwise asymptomatic, and one of them was completely non-morbid. While India, as a nation is taking leaps in medical advancement, there's another face to this: the lack of knowledge in general population. The data & stats present in the books are never shared to the laymen, and it's the lack of awareness which causes more deaths than anything. MI, Angina, Nitrates, PCI, Angioplasty are one of the most common topics in UG curriculum. I believe that a doctor is a preacher first. And as much we should be proud of what we're doing, our Indian culture has always taught us that the greatest virtue is in spreading knowledge. So i think the next step to a happy and healthy society must be taken by us. Doesn't matter at what level of the medi...
