I am a final year Physiotherapy student. We are posted in clinics from 2nd year itself and we observe and form bonds with the patient much more than anyone does . Daily meetups , talking about their life to distract them from the pain. What I have learned is, all they need is a person to hear them and help them .
I am not talking about any particular patient here. Every 15 days, our postings change and we meet different kinds of patients. The way the look at you when they enter the OPD , eyes filled with hope to make their affected part better .
I love it how I am able to help them with zero invasions . I am amazed on how easily things can work . Just by, talking to them patiently, listening to them and their problems and giving them simple solutions brings such a huge smile on their face . I personally get attached with my patients a lot. Dont know weather it is good thing or not but it definitely feels good to me .
I try to give my best. I put in every drop of energy I have to increase 5 degrees in an ortho patient or make a neuro patient walk without getting a feeling to fall or make a bells palsy patient smile again . These little things count so much !
They are now able to comb their hair or dress on thier own again or spend the day without having dizziness after getting a treatment for vertigo. It feels real that we are doing a great job.
Every day these little things makes me wake up and do what i am good at , that is, helping patients .
Making each one of them functional is my goal .
