Hot Lights, Cold Steel: Life, Death and Sleepless Nights in a Surgeon's First Years

It is a book by Dr. Micheal J. Collins and talks of his  experiences gained  in the Orthopedics Residency.

The story is special and we need to preserve all the experience mentioned . His experience,  exciting, thrilling, disappointing at times and at other, mind numbing for what just happened and how he feels about it. The narration is as dynamic and emotions- provoking as though we are reading fiction. Yet, the whole course of story is so real in experiencing.  It is really relatable for the medical students as such is let me mention here, I feel like it is a must read !

Just a few days back, when we were having a session on instruments used in ENT surgeries, I don't know from where the conversation arise but I got especially conscious when the conversation sounded like,  "Why do you think its called a cold surgery?"

Well, the answe was , that since no heat  use is involved in it. We just use the instruments. Then it struck me. It's the Cold Steel that's been used!

The realization gave me goosebumps !

To conclude, I loved the experiences I got to know and have heard this master peace repeatedly and it never fails to being back the thrill.

    I'm glad to have come across so many books which are memoirs of Doctors during their initial years of practice & residency! Adding each masterpiece I come across in 'To Read'!

 We want a character to relate to us, to prosper despite the flaws. The biggest blunder of this oh-so-famous TV serial is the protagonist- the 'perfect' Anupamaa(which to be honest is quite annoying). She's shown to be the best mother, best daughter, best wife, best daughter-in-law and ofc the best "Naari". But what if all of this was just a coax.
